Mission Accomplished in Central America

It has been Bountiful’s privilege and blessing to initiate a successful nutrition program in Central America. Since we systematized data collection in 2016, we have provided nearly 48,000 evaluations of children in the region. Over the last two years, we have also closely collaborated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, helping train those who will assume responsibility for their program. We are gratified that they have embraced the core strategies we pioneered.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has chosen hunger as a top priority. After spending several years researching what would make the biggest difference, Latter-day Saint leaders determined that focusing on birth to age 5 would have the most impact. Children need to survive birth and their mothers need to survive birth. They need access to clean water and enough nutritious food that their brains can develop appropriately during that critical five-year window, and then they need to get started at school.” – Deseret News, Inspiring BYU students to solve world hunger.

As a part of its Child Nutrition Program (CNP), the Church will now take on the responsibilities of growth monitoring, supplementation for malnourished children (both member and nonmember), and health education in Central America. This transition will enable broader coverage, enhanced local support, and access to more extensive resources.

We express our deepest gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to assessing children, distributing supplements, teaching health lessons, and supporting families month by month. This work has been expertly guided by Gloria de Rosales, whose gentle, firm, and persistent leadership has been key to the program’s success.

To you, our valued donors, please know that your contributions have profoundly impacted countless children’s lives and will continue to bless these same children as they grow into healthy, productive adults.

To Our Donors Who Have
Designated a Central American Country

Bountiful has agreed with the Church to provide support to our coordinators through the end of 2024, as they share their expertise with those now taking on the program and transition to other activities. Beginning in 2025, Bountiful will shift financial support from Central America to needy children in other parts of the world.

If you have designated your contributions for a Central American country, we invite you to continue supporting Bountiful in our efforts to provide nutrition and care to children in need elsewhere. For example, we are currently expanding community based programs independent of the Church in the Philippines and Madagascar. If you have a specific preference for where your donations should be directed, please let us know.

Thank you for your continued generosity and commitment to nurturing the well-being of children worldwide.
