Transforming Lives in 2026: A Report from Nigeria
January 2026 marked a pivotal moment for the Bountiful Children’s Foundation in Nigeria. As the sun rose over our screening centers in Ondo, Oyo, Rivers, and Ekiti states, we weren't just met by a few dozen families, we were met by thousands.
As the Country Coordinator, I saw firsthand the mix of hope and desperation in the eyes of parents. Word of mouth has spread quickly; families are seeing children who were once frail now running and playing thanks to our nutritional supplements. But this success has brought us to a difficult crossroads.
The surge for 2026
Our January screenings were unlike any we have conducted before. Across our sites, a total of 2,093 children arrived for assessment. Our teams worked tirelessly, clinical and focused, yet every time I looked up from my clipboard, the line seemed to have grown longer.

Families attending Nutritional Screening
As a Country Coordinator, my job is often about logistics and coordination. But on days like these, it is about eyes and hearts. I spoke with mothers who shared their struggles with rising food costs and the daily battle to provide a balanced meal. The economic pressure in Nigeria right now is squeezing the most vulnerable, and it shows in the health of our children.
When demand reaches this scale, intuition is no longer enough. Every decision, from who is enrolled to how resources are allocated, must be guided by accurate, consistent measurement. Caring well for children requires not only compassion, but systems that can keep pace with reality.

Precision through Technology - "The ShareMyHealth App"
To manage this massive influx with the highest level of accuracy, our team utilizes the Share My Health app. This digital tool has revolutionized how we track our impact. Instead of relying on manual tallies, our coordinators use the app to instantly record measurements and calculate nutritional status.
This technology allows us to see the data climbing across all four states in real-time. It gives us the precision and transparency needed to ensure every child’s health profile is correctly captured and that our resource management is backed by hard data.
The double egde sword of discovery
The screening process is rigorous. We measure, we weigh, and we assess. By the end of our sessions, we had identified 1,645 children who met the medical criteria for acute nutritional support. These are children whose futures depend on the supplements we provide.
However, as I sat down to reconcile our inventory, the numbers hit me with a weight I can’t quite describe. We had enough nutritional supplements for 800 children.
Visualizing the gap
To see the numbers is one thing; to understand the gap is another. The chart below illustrates the "Silent Waiting List" we now carry.
For every child we were able to enroll in the program, another eligible child had to be turned away or placed on a waiting list. That is 845 children, each with a name, a family, and a desperate need, who we currently cannot serve.
You can help close the gap
While it is difficult to see 845 children on a waiting list, I am heartened by the 800 lives we are already transforming. These children are the proof that our model works. We have the infrastructure in place, a dedicated team of local coordinators, and the deep trust of the communities we serve.
My name is Adewale,
I am grateful for the nutritional supplements
given to me and my friends!
The foundation is ready to act; we simply require the resources to match the actual scale of this need. I am inviting our donors and friends to join us in this mission. By donation to us, you can help ensure that no child's health or future is forced to wait.
Your monthly donation of $15 gives one Nigerian child the nutrition and follow-up care needed for a healthier, brighter future.
Skipping one restaurant meal a month can change a child’s life forever.
A gift of $75 supports five children who urgently need supplementation and monitoring.
Together, we can ensure that our data reflects not just the need, but the lives we have successfully saved.
