El Salvador - History and Demographics

El Salvador is bordered on the northeast by Honduras, on the northwest by Guatemala, and on the south by the Pacific Ocean. El Salvador has over 300 rivers. There are several lakes enclosed by volcanic craters. A Conquistador named the new province after Jesus Christ – San Salvador. Society still wears the scars of a Civil War from 1980-1992. The pyramid ruins of Tazumal are a reminder of the Maya heritage.
