Small Wins, Big Impact: Half-Year Highlights from the Field

As we reach the halfway point of the year, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the quiet but powerful progress happening across our communities. From January to July, we’ve witnessed countless small wins — each one a step forward in our mission to reduce child malnutrition.

Every child who moves from red to yellow, every volunteer trained, and every mother who applies what she learns in our nutrition classes — these moments matter. They remind us that even small efforts, done consistently, can lead to big and lasting change.

Reaching More, Growing Together

From January to June, 2,459 children were served through our programs. Behind that number are stories of mothers showing up every week, volunteers offering their time, and coordinators walking extra miles to reach families in need.

Our volunteer force continues to grow — from 44 volunteers last year to 74 active members today, with more joining in the next cycle. That means more hands, more hearts, and stronger support in every corner of our reach.

Stories of Steady Progress

Marisse’s Growing Appetite – Liloan, Cebu

Marisse B. Abelinde lives with her parents and three siblings in a rented home. Her mother, Abygail, takes care of the household, while her father works as a construction worker. Before joining the program, Marisse had a poor appetite and was underweight.

Things started to improve when Abygail became actively involved in the nutrition lessons. Over time, she noticed that Marisse began eating more consistently. Thanks to the monthly provisions from the foundation, such as peanut butter and milk, and her mother’s commitment, Marisse became healthier and more energetic.

Marisse before and after

According to Abygail, “Dako kog pasalamat sa Children Foundation sa ilang panghatag kada bulan — dako kaayung tabang para sa among mga anak.” (I’m very thankful to the Children Foundation for the monthly support — it has been a huge help for our children.)

Ara Mae’s Steady Progress – Jagna, Bohol

At five years old, Ara Mae Tuayon comes from a low-income family in Jagna, Bohol. She was initially classified as a SAM child due to her picky eating and low appetite. With continued support, she gradually improved and was later categorized under MAM.

Beyond nutrition, Ara Mae is thriving in school. She’s respectful, helpful at home, and brings joy to her parents. Her journey shows how proper nourishment and loving support can make a child shine — both at home and in the classroom.

Why These Moments Matter

Stories like Marisse’s and Ara Mae’s remind us that meaningful progress isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes, it’s simply a mother returning every week. A child moving from red to yellow. A new volunteer showing up. These are the building blocks of impact.

As we continue the second half of the year, we do so with deeper resolve. We know the work isn’t easy. But if these past months have shown us anything, it’s this: when communities come together — one child, one mother, one volunteer at a time — we create change that lasts.
