About Catanduanes
Recipients: Barangays Pangilao, San Miguel; Sto. Nino, Virac; Dariao, Caramoran.
Fishing and Farming( abaca, coconut, rice, camote, corn, cassava, banana).
Farmers( striping abaca,) laborers and Fishermen.
Some are high school graduates and some are elementary graduates. Most of them are made of light materials(nipa and bamboo) some with no cemented flooring, and only a few have some semi-concrete housing.
Pangilao is considered one of the depressed areas, and both Codon and Pangilao are gida( geographically isolated disadvantaged areas, Sto Nino is a barangay of Virac, the capital town but most of them don’t have stable jobs. In Pangilao most of our recipients are informal settlers but most of them are members of the church. Catanduanes is a typhoon-prone area since we are facing the Pacific Ocean. Life is not so easy since we are living on an island when there is a typhoon we are isolated because the only transportation that connects us to the mainland is by ferry. Prices of commodities are high and it’s hard for those who are just living in a hand-to-mouth existence.
