An Impactful Journey to Guatemala
A big thank you to our volunteers who traveled to Guatemala! These individuals left the comfort fo their homes to spend ten days traveling and serving in Guatemala. They helped with supplement distributions in the communities of Peten, Salama, and Jalapa. They were able to meet program participants and their families at these distributions and sit in for health lessons given by the local coordinator. The volunteers enjoyed getting to visit with the local families and seeing their homes and their way of life.
One of the families who attended the Humanitarian Nutritour has two daughters who are currenlty serving as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala, so it was exciting for them to see first hand what their daughters are experiencing. While they were not able to visit their daughters in person, they were able to video call with them while in Guatemala.
The volunteers were also able to visit some local attractions and see some beautiful sites. They visited the Mayan ruins of Tikal and the Iximche Ruins. They saw the Caribbean Ocean, Rio Dulce, and Lake Atitlan. And they visited the beautiful city of Antigua, which is surrounded by volcanoes and boasts beautiful Spanish colonial buildings.
Overall, it was a mutually impactful and uplifting trip for both the locals and the volunteers. One of the coordinators shared with us that the local families enjoyed meeting the volunteers very much. And one of the volunteers said they have not been able to get Guatemala off their mind since returning home. We are grateful for the coordinators who take time to plan and organize these trips to give the volunteers such a great experience immersed in the culture and for such giving volunteers who are willing to serve!
Join us for our next trip to Guatemala coming November 2024!
