How Volunteering with Bountiful Children Changed My Life
Do you have a few hours to spare for a meaningful cause?
At Bountiful Children, volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Most of our efforts—whether they’re planning humanitarian trips, creating videos, or writing blog posts—are driven by compassionate people who want to make a difference. With children and families around the world in need, our mission is simple: to bring hope and tangible help into their lives. And we need you to help us do it.
Why I Started with Bountiful
In 2016, I attended a hunger banquet hosted by Bountiful Children. The event was eye-opening. Guests were divided into economic classes based on global income statistics. Most of us—including my young son and me—were placed in the low-income group, sitting on the floor with cardboard boxes while others enjoyed a nice meal at a table.

My son made the best of it by building a cardboard fort, but I couldn’t ignore the quiet discomfort and rumbling in my tummy. Even my family members at the table later said they felt uneasy watching us sit on the floor with so little food.
Our first Bountiful humanitarian trip
That summer, we joined a Bountiful humanitarian trip to Guatemala—and that’s when everything changed. We met a mother living under scrap metal with her four children. With Bountiful’s help, the volunteers helped build them a tiny two-room home. It wasn’t luxurious, but it offered shelter from the weather and separation from the smoke of their open cooking fire.

Experiences like these shift your perspective. We found it hard to spend money on ourselves after we came home. We reached out to Bountiful to ask how we could help—and they put us to work.
Travel with Bountiful: A humanitarian trip to Guatemala
That was nine years ago. Since then, I’ve volunteered in many roles from helping with humanitarian trips to serving on the board. It’s been an incredible journey—working with coordinators and families across the globe, and meeting passionate volunteers from all walks of life.
