Preventing Malnutrition

Although malnutrition can manifest in multiple ways, the path to prevention is virtually identical: adequate maternal nutrition before and during pregnancy and while breastfeeding; optimal breastfeeding in the first two years of life; nutritious, diverse and safe foods in early childhood; and a healthy environment, including access to basic health, water, hygiene and sanitation services and opportunities for safe physical activity.

Mireiza Hooper Zubieta de Cavero

Community Coordinator

“My name is Mira. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 37 years. I have 2 wonderful children and a beautiful granddaughter. The truth is that when they told me about the foundation without thinking about children, I only thought about service. I liked it because I love trying to do what Jesus Christ would do for my neighbor and I said yes. I like helping mothers and children to be happy. Above all, I love knowing that my children can be relieved of this malnutrition and that it can alleviate the pain of the mothers. I was inspired by my friend Vaneza from Colombia who has cancer. Despite her challenge, she continues to work for her children as a coordinator and is an example for me. I feel happy to be in this foundation and would like to support Bountiful in every way I can.” –Mira

Bountiful's Community Coordinators

Community coordinators serve with Bountiful as volunteers. They organize other local volunteers and together conduct screenings, train families, distribute locally-purchased nutritional supplements, and follow up on infant development.
