Venezuela - History and Demographics
Venezuela is a country on the northern coast of South America, consisting of a continental landmass and many islands in the Caribbean Sea. The continental territory is bordered on the north by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Colombia, Brazil on the south, Trinidad and Tobago to the north-east and on the east by Guyana. Venezuela is entirely located in the tropics over the Equator. Economic problems, as well as crime and corruption, were some of the main causes of protests. Since 2015, nearly 2 million people have fled Venezuela. Nearly 90% of Venezuelans live in poverty - a dramatic increase from 48% in 2014. Malnutrition is widespread.
