Poverty

Poverty amplifies the risk of, and risks from, malnutrition. People who are poor are more likely to be affected by different forms of malnutrition. Also, malnutrition increases health care costs, reduces productivity, and slows economic growth, which can perpetuate a cycle of poverty and ill-health.

My name is Adriana Marcela Martínez Obregón. I was born on 01/16/1992 in Managua, Nicaragua. We are two siblings. I am the oldest; my younger brother is 19 years old. My father is a taxi driver, and my mother is a housewife. I learned about the gospel of Jesus Christ in 2008. I thank the missionaries who came to my home one day to tell us about the plan of salvation and about the restored gospel. They clarified many of my doubts. I know that the decision to be baptized was not easy, but without a doubt it was one of the best I have taken in my life. At the age of 15 I was baptized with my family on 4/4/2008.

My first calling was as a teacher in the primary, then as a secretary, and finally as a counselor. I am currently the president of the primary of the Reparto Shick ward in the Villa Flor Stake. I love working in the work of the Lord more when it comes to children.

Academically this is my last year. In December I graduate as a Bachelor of Social Work and Development Management. I am certainly passionate about this career. This is one of the disciplines that seeks to contribute to the creation of a culture that generates equitable social relations, respect for different types of families, groups and organizations, and to overcome poverty, and violence. It seeks to encourage participation of the community in making decisions about their development, as well as management, training in the use of tools, methodologies, research, and social intervention. It promotes empowerment and decision-making processes.

Thanks to my heavenly father I learned about the Bountiful Children’s Foundation through Brother Raúl Rosales. I am the Bountiful coordinator of the Villa Flor Managua Stake. I am infinitely grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me because it is helping me in my personal experience.
