Honduras - History and Demographics
Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, and to the south by the Pacific Ocean. Honduras has one of the most unequal distributions of income and resources in the world. Food insecurity and malnutrition among the most vulnerable populations have worsened because of droughts due to the nation’s economy being primarily agricultural. 60% of the population live in poverty. A large majority of Honduran farmers live in extreme poverty, or below 180 US dollars per capita. 25% of children are affected by chronic malnutrition.
